We’re thrilled to announce that New Zealander Dr. Inia Raumati will be representing CurraNZ in one of the most gruelling self-supported foot races on earth, the Grand to Grand Ultra. This is just one of 8 races Inia will be completing in a 12 month period to set a new world record.
'Kia ora koutou, I’m Dr Inia Raumati, an emergency doctor from Auckland, New Zealand.
In 2014 I turned 40, and became the first and only Kiwi to complete the 4Deserts Grand Slam – running 250km races across the Sahara, Gobi, Atacama, and Antarctica deserts in 1 year.
Turning 50 in 2024, I’m hoping to achieve my second 4Deserts Grand Slam, and be the first person in the world to run a multi-stage self supported ultramarathon on each continent in 1 year.
I will be raising funds for a scholarship called Kia Mau, Kia Ora; to enable young people to run a multi-stage ultra in a team and support them to embrace their full potential. We want to nurture young people – who otherwise would not have the opportunity to take on a life-changing challenge, to break through their perceived barriers to success and support them with help from the community through financial aid and mentorship into their chosen careers.
I'm incredibly excited and grateful to be a new Curranz ambassador. Shift work, and especially night shifts, take a huge toll on my ageing body's fitness and energy levels. As my ability to train is compromised, I take any advantage I can to try and minimise that deficit. Since I have been taking Curranz daily I've found that I recover from fatigue better, and also sleep better during the transitions from day and night shifts. I'm hopeful that the energy regulating benefits of Curranz will also help with the jetlag and short turnaround between my races for the year.
Stay tuned for updates on Dr. Raumati’s incredible journey and join us in supporting him as he embarks on this epic adventure.
