Kiwi ambassador Max Brown Wins DOUBLE GOLD at National Canoe Champs

    on May 20, 2021

CurraNZ ambassador, Max Brown, took double gold at the New Zealand Canoe Sprint Championships at Lake Karapiro last weekend. In the 1,000m singles event, Max won an epic battle against his partner, Kurtis Imrie, with whom he later won gold in the doubles.

Max said after the singles champioinship race victory: "I was over the moon about the race. I was focusing on being really consistent throughout and sticking to my race plan.

"I was actually the fastest off the line which was a nice surprise but then eased off and the other boys took the lead.

"I managed to stay in touch until the last 250m which is where I put the hammer down. I sprinted into the lead and took the win.

"This is my first ever National Title in the K1. I have always done quite well in the team boats, so I was stoked to finally get a Gold Medal on my own."

On the race that earned him a doubles' Olympic selection, Max said: "I also won the K2 1,000m with my partner Kurtis Imrie. We won by eight seconds, so it was awesome to get a big win like this before we fly to Tokyo!"

"I've been taking CurraNZ blackcurrants for 4-5 months now and feel like I am making really big gains. I like to take two tabs two hours before a big session or race."

Huge congratulations to Max & Imrie - we're looking forward to seeing these Kiwis representing New Zealand in Japan this August.
