At CurraNZ, we’re proud to support individuals who push the limits of human endurance—and this month, Mike Ellicock is doing just that.
This year, Mike will celebrate his 50th birthday in true Paratrooper style: by attempting to row around the entire coast of Great Britain, aiming to break the existing record.
It's an audacious feat inspired by former Paras John Ridgway and Chay Blyth, who famously rowed the Atlantic in 1966.
Mike, a former Parachute Regiment platoon commander, knows a thing or two about adversity and resilience. Wounded in action at just 25 during a hostage rescue mission in Sierra Leone, he recovered to go on and lead his unit in Iraq.
Now, decades later, he’s channelling that same grit and determination into this ultra-endurance challenge—with CurraNZ in his corner to support his performance and recovery.
Mike’s not doing this just for personal glory. He’s raising vital funds for two causes close to his heart:
💥 SUPPORT OUR PARAS – the official charity of The Parachute Regiment
🌊 The RNLI – the lifeboat crews who keep our coasts safe
Mike, who was one of the lucky ones to survive the headline-making hostage rescue in a terrifying gun battle, says:
"Not all my brothers in arms were as fortunate in Sierra Leone. This challenge is about celebrating life, honouring those we’ve lost, and raising support for the organisations that protect and serve.”
Follow Mike’s training, updates, and mission as he prepares to take on the ocean—and inspire a nation.
