SEPTEMBER'S CurraNZ Customer of the Month is Wiltshire’s Jason O’Callaghan, an amateur age-group triathlete who races for Zoot Athlos Race Team.
Last month Jason raced Zell Am See 70.3 triathlon in Austria (1.9km swim / 90km bike / half marathon). Having been knocked off his bike when racing at the World 70.3 Championships there in 2015, he had a score to settle this time around.
Unfortunately, this return mission didn’t entirely go to plan, but to his absolute and unexpected delight, Jason still came away with a slot for next year’s 70.3 World Championships in South Africa.
Jason says: “The weather was hot but I achieved the time I wanted on the bike section and made sure I didn’t overcook it. Unfortunately about 6km into the run I was struck down with stomach cramps, dizziness and over-heating and my run fell apart.”
Incredibly, Jason soldiered on to finish, “high-fiving people all the way down to the finishing line” to be greeted by his family.
While his time of 5:26hrs wasn’t what he’d set out to achieve, Jason and his family still attended the awards ceremony that evening, where to his amazement, was called to the podium with the surprise announcement of his World Championships slot allocation.
“I thought I was hearing things when the presenter called out my name!”
Jason has used CurraNZ religiously this year. He says: “CurraNZ has made a massive difference. Previously I would wake up the following day after training a hard training set feeling like I had been hit by a train. But no more – I wake up the following morning and those aches and pains have subsided. I also suffered a lot with leg cramps but less so now.
“Also, after hard training blocks I don’t feel so run down as I used to. I think CurraNZ keeps illness away such as coughs and colds - but let’s not speak too soon!
“You only get one crack in life so grab it while you can. I will be going to the 70.3 World Championships in South Africa next September and I have a year to get my act sorted to achieve the time I want. A big thanks to my family for all their support - we will go for two weeks and make a holiday of it!”
Well done Jason - your prize of two cartons of CurraNZ is heading your way!
