OUR August Customer of the Month is triathlete Helen Russell, who this year took on a new challenge of quadrathlons (swim/kayak/bike/run) with the aim of competing at the British Quadrathlon Championships in May.
Despite no previous experience of kayaking, Evesham-based Helen joined her local club last summer and learned the new discipline, kayaking throughout the winter in challenging conditions, with ice frozen onto her boat.
This hard work paid off as, in only her first season, she dominated the quadrathlon circuit. Not only did she win the British Quadrathlon Championships in Lincoln but she also claimed the British Series title, which rewards consistency through the season by winning the first three of the five-race series.
As well as being an avid athlete, Helen is also an active fundraiser. She was part of an 11-strong team, led by former England footballer Geoff Thomas, that cycled the entire route of the Tour de France one day ahead of the professionals in 2015 to raise money for Cure Leukaemia.
This year Helen has dedicated herself to raising money for the Air Ambulance service and cycled three time up Mont Ventoux in one day and organised a number of events, including stretch and Wattbike classes, stalls at cycle jumbles and turbo challenges at her local retail village. She has reached her fundraising target of £2,000 for The Air Ambulance Service, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Service in the last couple of weeks.
Helen started using CurranNZ last year and in particular finds it useful to use in the run-up to races or hard training sessions. She finds that it reduces muscle soreness and, according to her partner Julian, 'she certainly moans less about it the day after her races!'
Well done Helen - your prize of two packs of CurraNZ are on their way to you.
