OUR Australasian Multi-Sport Champion, the fast-rising Kiwi endurance star Dougal Allan, was the fastest pro on the bike section at Challenge Shepparton earlier this month.
Although Dougal was treating the half-Iron event as a training run for IronMan Western Australia in early December, he once again excelled on the 90km bike phase of the race, despite difficult windy conditions, in a time of 2:04.
Dougal is ranked No6 in the IronMan world bike rankings and recently signed with Felt Bicycles.
Dougal (pictured left) said after the race: “I had an average swim (non-wetsuit always makes my life harder) but rode up through the field to start the run in second place. My legs were a tad heavy after all the training mileage (I ran 25km just two days beforehand) and lost two spots at the end to finish fourth.
“Notably, I was able to get up the very next day and hit the training again without skipping a beat – which is another vote of confidence in the magic berries. This was no mean feat after four hours of racing at threshold followed by a four-hour drive home. I am sure my recovery was enhanced by CurraNZ.”
Dougal is gearing up for the Australasian IronMan season, with Ironman Western Australia, Ironman NZ, Xterra Motatapu and IronMan Australia his race targets between now and May.
