WE'RE really chuffed to award this month’s Customer prize to Geoff Thornes, who has been amazing us with his running exploits when ordering CurraNZ over the years. A more enthusiastic runner you couldn't meet - and we enjoy our regular chats on the phone.
Last month, Geoff, only a few weeks before his 71st birthday, came out of retirement and ran the Hull Marathon, his first in 35 years.
He finished the 1982 race in 56th place in 1982 in 3:03:04 and last month, completed the race in 4:45.03.
In his day Geoff was a superb athlete and veteran of 25 marathons, boasting a PB of 2:44:51, set in 1978. The Hull man was also a member of the winning team at the 1977 British Marathon Championships in a time of 2:47:45.
Geoff has been 'bitten by the bug' again and runs up to 75 miles a week.
“Injuries have slowed me a bit this year, but CurraNZ has certainly been a big factor in helping me recover from races and injury.”
This year, decided to to step up to the full marathon distance. He says: “I’ve run several shorter races up to 20 miles in the last two years and decided to do another marathon in my home city especially because it’s the UK City of Culture year.
“I am entered for the Manchester Marathon in April and hoping for a good age-group time and will also enter the Hull marathon again in September, injury permitting!
“I’ll also include 10km races at Lincoln and Hull and the Jane Thomlinson series, plus Sunderland and Hull Humber Bridge half marathons.”
